Call for Certified First Nations Health Manager Program Instructors for the First Nations Health Managers Association (FNHMA)

Introduction and Background

The FNHMA promotes and contributes to the advancement of First Nations health management and provides opportunities to share knowledge. Health managers from across Canada can take advantage of the Certified First Nations Health Manager Program (CFNHMP) and professional designation to support their knowledge of health management and achieve professional growth. FNHMA prepares individuals to work with new knowledge and skills and assists its members and their organizations to set strategic goals, successfully implement plans, and deliver quality health service programs.

FNHMA focuses on competencies that are essential for a professional active in First Nations health management. These 10 Core Competencies serve as a base for the development of curriculum for the CFNHMP.

The CFNHMP consists of 5 courses:

Course 100 – The First Nations Health Landscape

Course 200 – High-Performing Strategic Organizations

Course 300 – Effective Programs and Services

Course 400 – Efficient Organizations

Course 500 – The Professional First Nations Health Manager

View the CFNHM Information Guide for an outline of course learning objectives.

The CFNHMP is delivered in both virtual and in-person settings.

Objective

This call for CFNHMP Instructors invites applications from individuals interested in delivering the in-person (intensive) CFNHMP course at various locations across Turtle Island.

Scope

Instructors are responsible for the delivery of in-person (intensive) CFNHMP courses. This includes reviewing material and preparing to deliver the courses utilizing FNHMA’s instructional materials as well as any associated travel. The selected contractor will also be responsible for grading learner assignments throughout the courses in alignment with FNHMA service standards of returning marks within 2 weeks.

To ensure the consistency and rigour of the program is maintained, FNHMA requires that all instructors undergo an extensive training process with an experienced instructor. This training will include 5 days of virtual training with an experienced instructor and shadowing one in-person course with the instructor to understand how courses are typically delivered. An experienced instructor will also observe the successful applicant’s first course delivery to support delivery and offer advice and suggestions.

Instructors are expected to commit to completing a minimum of 5 courses or one cohort of learners (Courses 100 through to 500) to support consistency for learners and to reflect the significant training effort carried out by the FNHMA to support the instructor's success.

Timeframe

The FNHMA will work with the instructor to finalize a course delivery schedule that meets the needs of First Nation sponsoring organizations. The contract will be completed following training and the delivery of 5 courses.
